Coulisse’s creative director, Catharina Idema, alongside product managers Esterel Roetgering (expert in roller and wood) and Fenna Haakma (expert in pleated and honeycomb), explored some of the world’s top design events this January. Their journey took them to Heimtextil in Frankfurt, Germany, and Paris Deco Off and Maison & Objet in France. Across these events, the Crafted Minimalism trend emerged as a key focus for 2025. This movement blends sustainability, artistry, and natural inspiration to redefine interior design. In this blog, we share insights from the fairs and highlight the latest trends.
The Crafted Minimalism trend redefines sustainable design by merging ancient craftsmanship with modern innovation. Traditional techniques such as weaving, woodworking, and hand-dyeing are revitalized using advanced methods like 3D printing and laser cutting. The result is a harmonious blend of timeless materials such as polished wood, terracotta, and natural stone paired with sleek, contemporary forms and finishes.
“Sustainability and artistry are at the heart of this trend,” explains Catharina Idema. “Crafted Minimalism celebrates understated luxury and encourages us to embrace objects that are both meaningful and beautiful.” Trend experts like Christine Boland and Lidewij Edelkoort emphasize the importance of combining heritage techniques with innovation, a philosophy Coulisse reflects in its collections. This movement allows interiors to feel grounded while serving modern needs. It was evident across all the fairs we visited, with Paris Deco Off and Heimtextil showcasing stunning examples of how craft techniques can meet technological advancements to inspire both homes and lifestyles.

The streets of Paris became a creative hub during Paris Deco Off and Maison & Objet, where innovation met craftsmanship. Coulisse explored showrooms filled with textiles from brands like Casamance and Elite, showcasing earthy tones, textured patterns, and round, organic shapes. These designs beautifully reflected the themes of Crafted Minimalism.
“Walking through these showrooms was like stepping into the visions of Christine Boland and Lidewij Edelkoort,” says Esterel Roetgering. The fairs emphasized material authenticity and the beauty of craftsmanship, from natural fibers to intricate weaves. Maison & Objet’s focus on emotional design paired with Deco Off’s tactile displays created a truly immersive experience that offered countless ideas for 2025.
This Paris visit highlighted the importance of balancing modernity and tradition in design. We were inspired to incorporate these elements into our own collections, bringing timeless elegance and sustainable artistry into window coverings.

At Frankfurt’s Heimtextil, the theme Future Continuous, curated by Patricia Urquiola, explored the intersection of tradition and innovation. This year’s trends highlighted textiles as storytellers, reflecting identities, documenting cultural shifts, and carrying memories forward. Advanced techniques like 3D-printed fabrics and recycled materials were presented alongside traditional methods, demonstrating the versatility of modern design.
“Heimtextil emphasized how we can use the past to shape a more sustainable future,” explains Fenna Haakma. The convergence of science, art, and craft in exhibits like Urquiola’s Among Us installation showcased how technology can amplify traditional processes. This theme aligns with Coulisse’s dedication to sustainable and innovative design.
As we explored Heimtextil, it became clear that the future of textiles lies in combining heritage with forward-thinking processes. The event reaffirmed that Coulisse is already ahead of the curve in creating eco-conscious designs that inspire and endure.

“Being surrounded by nature-inspired designs fosters positivity and soulful living,” says Catharina Idema. Materials like wood and tactile fabrics take center stage, offering a soothing retreat from the modern world. The collection also pairs beautifully with the Pantone Color of the Year, Mocha Mousse, grounding interiors with its warm neutrality.
